1S by North normally denies 4 hearts, but rebidding hearts shows 4+ hearts and 5+ spades. Furthermore, the jump to 3H shows 11+ points. South may raise to 4H with 4 hearts, to 4S with 3 spades, or to 3NT with neither. If South bids 3S, it shows 3 spades with a very minimum hand.

| South's 2C bid shows an unbalanced hand, probably short in majors. With a weak hand, North may pass 2C or correct to 2D. With good stoppers in the majors, North may invite with 2NT or raise to 3NT directly.Note that South's 2C shows 12-16 points, so if North invites with 2NT, he is expecting 3NT to be made when South is at the upper range of 12-16, who should pass or raise accordingly. |
